Dr. Russell Breckwoldt

Meet the friendly staff at Monroe Road Animal Hospital!

Dr. Russell Breckwoldt
Veterinarian

Dr. Breckwoldt was born in Brooklyn and raised in Goshen, New York. Much of his youth was spent exploring the streams and woods behind his house in search of snakes and salamanders. Russell attended the University of Massachusetts and graduated cum laud with a BS in wildlife biology in 1984. He received his master's degree in parasitology from the University of Georgia in 1987 followed by his doctorate of veterinary medicine in 1991.

After practicing in Athens Georgia and suburban Chicago, he relocated to Charlotte in 1996 where he opened Carolina Exotic Animal Hospital. After taking time off to play Dr. Daddy, he returned to work and practiced emergency medicine at a 24-hour facility. Russell enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine and has a special interest in exotics including reptiles and pocket pets.

Russell has returned to roost at Monroe Road Animal Hospital with his wife Dr. Marjorie Widay, who is co-owner of the practice with Dr. Marty Davis. Russell spends his spare time playing drums, gardening, cheering on the Mets and spending time with his family.
